Built in European style the Vimanmek golden teak mansion is built according to Thai tradition entirely with golden teak without the use of a single nail.
Teak is rich in natural oils, a fast growing tropical tree and is easily worked. Because of its natural oils, teak is very durable and resistant to heavy rain and even acts as a insect repellent.
The building was originally built in 1868 on the Si Chang Island as a summer house, it was moved to Dusit Park in 1901 and soon became King Rama V's favorite palace.
In the collection of King Rama V's possessions are Thailands first indoor Bathroom the and the oldest Typewriter with Thai characters. Other items are European furniture, Thai ceramics and quality china.
